Mastering your Overview

3. Fight Tab

Switch to this tab once as soon as you are opposing many enemies or when in a large fleet
<- Back

This tab will show enemies (and rats) only. Once the party is over or you need to escape, switch back to standard tab. As you have learned before, "Open Overview Settings" again, and select the "Filter" tab. Once you have opened "Filter", click on "Deselect all" to start with a fresh selection. You will notice that everything disappears from your overview, as seen below:

image

On the left side of the picture above, you will notice certain type groups e.g. Asteroids. We'll unfold each of these categories, double-check that nothing is selected and then check what is desired. Copy the settings exactly from the type groups below! I will also add comments.

Anything not shown below is completely empty!

Celestial
(The only thing we want to see during a fight is if people open (covert) cynosural fields and we wanna find the straightest way to the local POS forcefield):

image

Charge
(Incoming bomb? Might be a good time to get the fuck out):

image

Deployable
(This one is interesting, if you get inside its range you can no longer warp away):

image

NPC
(Yes, we want to see rats. They might kill your interceptor in gatecamps or scramble you in belts. For hardcore missions with dozens of enemies, this overview tab is also your friend):

image

Ship
(Yes, we want all of them. Even Rookie ships. After each update with new ships you need to check back in here and add ALL the new ships!):

image

Structure
(All we wanna see is the tower itself and the warp scrambling batteries so in case we get scrambled we will see it in overview):

image

Now since we have configured all types, we're almost done. Click on the "States" tab as shown below and make sure you do it exactly like that. This way, you will no longer see people in your fleet, corporation, alliance, militia. Also, we will not show friends who are blue to us.

image

Great, now save your work and you have the fight setting ready which you need for all fleet fights! Right-click on that little arrow left to "Not saved", select "Save Current Type Selection as..." and enter the name "Fight". Overwrite it, if it already exists. Shown below:

Your fight setup will now look like this, isn't this slim enough to keep you from making mistakes? Now what if you need to navigate, go to stations, gates, whatever hell the fuck out? Wanna find wrecks? Well, do this: Either switch back to standard tab or right-click in space and navigate using the "Planets", "Stargates", "Stations" options (or your bookmarks). Enjoy your superquick pvp overview and remember to sort by names if you fly in a huge fleet, targets will always be called by names:

Depending on the ship you are flying (e.g. capitals), you might need to have a different setup than this one. But if you are flying highly specialized ships, then you should already know how to master your overview, so this is where it starts. This is your conventional pvp overview setup and this one might keep you and your friends alive. You'll see more, lock faster, stop doing friendly fire and be a good boy!

For tips on how to optimize your client for ultra large scale fleet fights, use this overview tab and then check here.
